Sometimes I wonder how I get any writing done at all, because Scout always has to be on my lap! And not just on my lap, but licking my face. It's infuriating that she's so cute, and I feel bad for pushing her off. The curse of being a dog lover. Anyway, short post today, but it's for a good update.
Despite the fact that I've been angry with my writing this semester, one of the poems I wrote a month or two ago got picked up by The Minnesota Review. It'll be published in Fall 2013. I hate having to wait that long, but at least I'll have Zone 3 to hold me over. Just wish I knew exactly when in the Spring that one will be out. Anyway, The Minnesota Review picked up my poem called, "I Could Call You Worse Things." It's a bit angry/angsty, but I'm glad people liked it, because it was actually fun to write, in a weird way. So that's:
My Uncle Sings La Cucaracha
Echoes of Bovary
I Could Call You Worse Things
Three is not too shabby for published works, right? Especially since last year I had nothing at all. I find it ridiculously exciting. For instance, when Zone 3 comes out, and I get my copy, I will probably carry it around with me for a solid week to be like, "HEY, LOOK WHAT I CAN DO!" People will probably start avoiding me in order to avoid being whacked in the face with the book while I demand to be read. Okay, I'm not that crazy, but I am really thrilled, and I might do a dance or two around the house while no one is watching.
Okay, gotta wrap this up. About 45 minutes from now, I'll be over at the local high school advertising my creative writing after-school program I'm doing at the library next year. Hopefully, I'll find some teens that are interested, because I am really pumped about getting it going and helping some of them out like people helped me back then.
