Once again, I'm back at school. This time I opted to stay in the dorms. Mainly because it's the cheapest route, and I'm within walking distance of all the buildings I need to go to. Pretty much the only perks. The room itself is pretty bleak and grungy. It's got the prison cell look going for it. Still, it's a place. I just wish that the bathroom door locked from the inside so any potential neighbors couldn't just stroll on in when I'm in there taking a shower. I guess I'll take my chances in the morning. Not that showering really matters when it's 105 degrees outside, and a five minute walk across campus is just enough time for your soul to leak out of your pores, let alone sweat.
Anyway, I'm excited about this new semester. I hate the drive here (which is considerably better than most of the drives other people have to make, but still!), but it's really something to be back in this environment. I know it's school and work, but it's great to be able to talk about writing all day long. And no one thinks I'm weird for it. Today was the easy part though. Get here, sign in, attend a welcome dinner, listen to the graduating students read their work, and then attend a reception. A reception complete with champagne and brownies. Half the time, it feels like a vacation being here. It's kind of nice.
I might not think the same by the end of the week after spending eight days in school from morning to night. But! So long as the crappy internet here holds up, I'll try to get in some posts about what's going on. I briefly met my mentor today, but tomorrow will be the real deal when we are in our assigned groups. Anyway, I've got a little bit of homework to catch up on, so I better get to it.
