Nothing Left to Say

So I saw Imagine Dragons yesterday. I first saw them opening for Awolnation a couple of months ago, and I was really impressed by them. I looked up their songs when I got home, and they quickly became my favorite band. I've written several poems with their songs jamming away in my headphones, I have their debut CD, and several of their songs on my phone. Their CD was the first CD I've bought in a long time. I don't know, something about them, I just connect with what they do. And they're brilliant live.

I ended up with sold out tickets when they came to St. Louis for part of their Night Visions tour last night. I'm just in love. As soon as they started playing, I was dancing and singing along. I wish I could hear them live every time I need to write poetry. They're just so energetic and into what they're doing. Plus, the lead singer has several different drums he plays, and I just love that. Back when I was a little kid, I really thought I was going to be a famous drummer one day. Turns out, I can barely even play Mary Had A Little Lamb on anything. So I live vicariously through others. ;)

Anyway, their music just takes me "there". That place I need to be when I write or when I just need something to listen to in order to sort out what's going on in my brain. Every time I hear it, I just want to get up and dance. I think it's completely believable when people say music and poetry are close to being one in the same. You have to have the rhythm, the lyrics. You have to provoke an emotion from your audience. I write my best poetry when I have a certain song that hits a chord with me.

So, now that I've gushed over Imagine Dragons, I have to say that one of their opening bands, Atlas Genius, was also really awesome. Which was really exciting, seeing as how being an opening band was how I found iD, and now they're hitting it big time. They had a great stage presence as well, so I was just going to use this blog post to list a few of the songs I really enjoy from them. Check them out.

And then there's this song, which has become my newest poem song:

Ahh, I just love when I find a band that I can listen to every single one of their songs and be like, "Yeah, I love this." Maybe one of these days I'll do one of those poems that plays off lyrics from songs. I don't know though. I don't know if I'd be the biggest success at that. Unlike my friend, Heather Foster, who wrote one of my favorites:

She's amazing. Also, I did just plug that link here so that you'd read it, so go and read it.
