It Has Arrived

I've been feeling kind of bummed/in a funk in the poetry world, but I received wonderful news today that really cheered me up! The issue of Zone 3 that published two of my poems is finally out! So here, hopefully in just a week or two, I'll have a copy in my hands of the very first book I've ever been published in!

I am super excited, obviously. Because it's the first, and because it published what is probably still my favorite poem. Why can't I write another one that I love as much as My Uncle Sings La Cucaracha? Beats me. Maybe one day...

So I feel better about my role in the poetry world, meager as it is. Today marked the last day of PNG until August as well, so my summer is freeing up. Just two more Wednesdays of PACT, and that's done too. I've been thinking about how to handle the summer. I have several big plans, but I also want to be out of the house as much as possible. I'm tired of feeling like I'm doing nothing, just sitting here twiddling my thumbs, waiting for something to happen to me. I've started running in the mornings, on the bike trail. So far, I haven't gone more than 3 miles, which I ran, jogged, and fast walked in intervals. 3 pretty slow miles. But I have an app on my phone to track my time, and I'm going to make it a goal to get a little better each week (I say "week" optimistically). Either way, that's been helping me feel better. Believe it or not, a 5k kicks off the Harry Potter convention, so I'd like to get where I can do that and not be winded afterwards.

I know I just said I wanted to get out of the house more, but I also want to do some fun, light reading while I have a break (a very short break, seeing as how I have a lit class in June). I obviously still need to work on my poems/churn out new work, since the big thesis is looming in my very near future. But, oh well, at least for today, I'm on Cloud 9.
